Emirates’ first flight bound for Thiruvananthapuram, received a colourful send-off from Kerala’s traditional Kathakali performers, as it departed Dubai International Airport on 1st February at 21:55 hours.
Emirates executives Ghaith Al Ghaith, Executive Vice President - Commercial Operations Worldwide; Nabil Sultan, Senior Vice President - Commercial Operations West Asia & Indian Ocean; and Mohammed H Mattar, Senior Vice President Airport Services (Dubai); flagged off the official departure of Emirates’ first flight EK 522.
A traditional Kathakali act, characterized by extra-ordinary and colourful costumes; elaborate head gears; and brightly painted faces greeted passengers at the Emirates check-in counter at Dubai International Airport. Dating back to the 17th century, Kathakali is the classical dance-drama of Kerala.
Passengers were also presented with a commemorative box of chocolates.
The Emirates Airbus A330-200 aircraft offering 12, 42 and 183 seats in First, Business and Economy class respectively, landed at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at 03:15 hours on 2nd February after a flight of almost four hours.
