Severe clashes broke out in Kobani after Iraqi peshmerga forces joined the battle against ISIL, Reuters reported Monday.
Citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the news service said that both sides had suffered losses. Local officials said that the Iraqi Kurdish forces had brought artillery to bear on the ISIL besiegers, who have had an advantage in heavy arms and equipment throughout the weeks-long battle.
The 150 Kurdish fighters allowed to cross through Turkish territory from Iraq had reached the lines on Saturday night, the report said.
After a brief lull, clashes intensifed in Kobani on Sunday, Reuters reported, with an air strike and multiple explosions.
