At least 15 people were killed after Houthis and tribesmen clashed in the central province of Marib, Reuters reported Tuesday.

Heavy fighting between rival factions are pushing Yemen toward a humanitarian "catastrophe," the Red Cross said earlier as some leaders urge the UN Security Council to act on the violence. Meanwhile Saudi Arabia continued its airstrikes against rebels in Yemen to support the exiled government, despite its announcement last week that it had ended its air campaign.

Iranian involvement in the conflict has also concerned the US, which is part of the Saudi-led coalition, as reports Tuesday said the Islamic Republic took over a US cargo ship off the coast of Yemen.

Conflict in Yemen escalated when the Houthis took control of the capital September, leading President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to resign. Hadi was later forced to flee when rebels attacked his presidential stronghold in Aden.
