US Cisco Systems will cooperate with Moroccan telecommunications companies in bid to start their transformation to fully integrated "electronic organizations" that can take advantage of the advantages that the Internet brings, reported Morocco-Today online.
Currently, Morocco is only starting to enter the Internet era, with an estimated 50,000 to 200,000 Internet users in the country.
"Morocco has a massive challenge ahead of it," said Henri Laban, Cisco Systems territory manager for the Maghreb region.
"The Moroccan government has realized this, and is taking steps to address the issue," he said.
Meanwhile, Morocco's economy and finance minister, Fathallah Oualalou, called on US investors to take part in the liberalization process starting in Morocco's telecom sector, reported ArabicNews.com
Oualalou said "the selling of the second GSM license to Medi-Telecom consortium for 1.1 billion dollars last year has stimulated foreign direct investments due to the fact that the operation was conducted in complete transparency." - Albawaba.com
