The largest number of lawbreakers in UAE's Ras Al-Khaimah in the year 2000 were visitors from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a senior police officer was quoted as saying by the Gulf News Sunday.
Police arrested 1,346 CIS citizens, 897 Afghans and 104 Egyptians, said Major Salem Saeed Al Mughni, head of the police criminal registration section.
There was a total of 3,547 arrests, Al Mughni said.
He told the paper that 3,069 cases were referred to the public prosecutor.
"Violators of UAE immigration rules came on the top of the list of offences, with 1,714 cases reported, compared with 1,051 money-related cases, and 368 cases against unknown criminals," Al Mughni told the Gulf News.
The official added that "more men were involved in crime than women."
Emirati security forces recently announced that they have arrested 797 infiltrators since January 15th.
