French President Jacques Chirac said Saturday he was disappointed by a new U.S.-drafted U.N. resolution on Iraq, which calls for a step-by-step transfer of authority to an interim postwar administration in Baghdad but sets no timetable for a handover of sovereignty.

Chirac said the new draft contained "little progress overall compared" with the previous resolution. "I do not hide from you that to us, it was somewhat of a disappointment," Chirac said, according to news agencies.
