China's Defense Ministry said Tuesday it has evacuated its nationals from Yemen, Reuters reported.

Chinese warships have evacuated over 570 citizens. The Chinese were transported from the Red Sea to Djibouti, where they will be flown home. Eight foreigners employed by Chinese companies have also fled.

The ministry said in a statement the evacuees left from two port cities, Aden and eastern Hodeidah.

A few Chinese workers remained in Yemen for work reasons in safe locations, and some Chinese diplomats remained at their posts in Sanaa and Aden, according to the Foreign Ministry, as violence among factions intensify.

After the evacuation, the Chinese warships will return to the Gulf of Aden where they've been helping in operations to fight Somali pirates.

Yemen has been in conflict since Houthi rebels took over control of the country's capital and forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to resign. A Saudi-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against the Iran-backed Shiite militants for nearly a week.
