ALBAWABA - Kansas police said in a statement that 1 person has been killed and at least 22 people have been injured in a shooting in Kansas City in the US state of Missouri following a Super Bowl victory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said during a press briefing that an investigation is still underway and will be getting to the bottom of the cause behind the horrifying incident. "This is still an active investigation," Graves stated.

Three people have been detained in relation to the shooting. "We do have three persons detained and under investigation for today's incident,".

According to Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson, eight persons have had "immediately life-threatening" injuries.  Shots were fired near Union Station. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a DJ at radio station KKFI 90.1, was the only person killed in the shooting.

Radio station KKFI 90.1 stated in a Facebook post: "It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano, lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs' rally,".

"This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community," the radio station statement added.

U.S. President Joe Biden released a statement regarding the shooting. "Jill and I pray for those killed and injured today, and for our country to find the resolve to end the senseless epidemic of gun violence tearing us at the seams".

"Today’s events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting. What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart?" Biden added.

Vice President Kamala Harris called on Congress members to pass “reasonable gun safety laws” after Wednesday’s shooting following a parade for the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs, CNN reported.

“The reality of it is a lot of this can be prevented if members of legislatures, including the United States Congress, just have the courage to act with reasonable gun safety law,” Harris told reporters at Joint Base Andrews before stepping aboard Air Force 2 en route to the Munich Security Conference.
Harris added that her prayers are with those who have been affected by the shooting.
