Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday met the current Chairman of the Iraqi Governing Council, Abdul-Aziz Al-Hakim.
In a press conference, following the talks, al-Hakim said that his meetings with Al-Assad and with other Syrian officials were "frank and constructive."
"Talks centered on the relations of cooperation in security and economic domains, ways of enhancing them in addition to issues of common concern," al-Hakim said.
He added that the Iraqi governing council is looking for ending the occupation and transferring the authority to the Iraqi people during the next six months.
"The governing council offered several proposals regarding presence of the UN in Iraq and some forms were determined with a number of European states about this issue," al-Hakim pointed out, according to SANA.
Regarding the possibility of signing a security accord with Syria, al-Hakim underlined that there are attempts in this direction through the two countries’ Interior Ministries.
On the council relations with the neighboring states, al-Hakim said: "The relations with Syria, Turkey, Iran and with states of the Gulf Cooperation Council are good and we are looking for establishing good relations with all countries." (Albawaba.com)
