cfa jordan tackles “ethics & corporate governance”

CFA Jordan, the leading society driving ethical and professional standards within the investment industry in Jordan, held a workshop focusing on “Ethics & Corporate Governance”, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Amman, in cooperation with Mr. Charles Cronin, CFA, Head of CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity (CFA Institute Centre), Europe Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) from London.

The workshop tackled Business Ethics and Corporate Governance with concentration on the importance of applying these fundamentals in financial institutions and organizations to obtain high levels of institutional integrity and reinforcing the awareness of international levels of business ethics and corporate governance.

“The aim of our workshop, which came as a continuation of our activities, was to highlight the importance of introducing proper corporate governance guidelines and code of ethics which are the building blocks for any successful institution and the foundation of the CFA program,” said Sami Nabulsi, CFA, President of CFA Jordan.

Nabulsi added “although ethics and corporate governance are more commonly adopted in developed countries compared to our region, we are currently witnessing a wave of change spanning several Arab countries. In fact, CFA Jordan is paralleling the efforts of the Jordan Securities Commission to endorse a proper corporate governance code to be adopted by all public companies, which in turn increases their attractiveness to foreign investors.”

Charles Cronin, CFA, the workshop’s guest speaker, set out the required ethical concepts that should be implemented by the financial institutions to avoid any conflicts of interest and reinforce full and fair disclosure. He also explained the importance of corporate governance that includes a range of individual internal controls and procedures through which a company should be financially managed.

CFA Jordan is committed to reinforce standards of the investment profession through cooperation with pioneers in the field, and through promoting the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program. The Society has conducted numerous initiatives, amongst was the “Asset Valuation” workshop last November, in addition to other industry-enhancing activities.
