A local ceasefire agreement between pro-government officials and insurgents is allowing food and aid supplies to enter Damascus Wednesday, Reuters reports.
The ceasefire was agreed back in August after months of negotiations, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says. Dozens of residents have reportedly been able to re-enter the southern Damascus neighborhood.
The ceasefire also calls for the release of prisoners held by Assad’s government and gave the Free Syrian Army responsibility for running the area, according to Reuters.
Syria has been grappling with a brutal war since 2011. Thousands have died in the ongoing conflict and millions have been forced to flee.
