Cavotec eyes bigger pie after completing aed92 million contract for dubai airport

The leading supplier of eco-friendly power solutions poised to cut new deals in the Middle East

Cavotec Middle East FZE, the leading supplier of environment-friendly power solutions, after having successfully completed its path-breaking AED 92 million contract to supply its unique WIBE Cable Management System to Concourse 2 of Dubai Airport, is eyeing a bigger market share in the Middle East.

Offering an exclusive peek into the market leader’s future strategy, Mr. Thomas Widegren, Executive Chairman of Cavotec Middle East, said: “Our successful contribution towards a very crucial area in the development of Dubai Airport has elicited widespread recognition within the industry. The sheer magnitude of our supply to the Dubai Airport has generated a large amount of interest among our peer group. We are now charting out plans to build on this success.”

Cavotec Middle East made a historic step by providing total technical support for Concourse 2 at the Dubai International Airport, one of the largest constructions in the world, in addition to the successful execution of projects at the Emirates Engineering. The Concourse 2 at Dubai Airport is the very first airport to develop dedicated A380 gates by fully integrating Cavotec’s pop-up systems for the A380 aircraft. Cavotec has supplied pits for all 26 gates (two each) at Concourse 2 which is an unparalleled achievement within the aviation sector in the Middle East.

Cavotec aims to raise awareness about its innovative and eco-friendly technology designed for the aviation sector during the Airport Show, being held at Airport Expo Dubai from June 2-4, 2008. The Cavotec Island at the Airport Build and Supply Show is located at stand CB 39.

Mr. Widegren put his company’s position in global market in perspective when he said: “Cavotec is offering a complete range of system support for airports all over the world. Institutions in the region have realised our core strength and we are now handling a slew of approaches from various GCC countries. At the Airport Show Cavotec has planned an interface with decision makers within the aviation industry to empower them with information regarding our varied strengths and products.”

Cavotec’s recent acquisition of the US-based Dabico Group, a global leader in the manufacture of airport ground support equipment, has consolidated its position manifold in the market.
Cavotec Fladung’s gamut of products is enhanced by Dabico’s fuel systems. Cavotec is now in a unique position to offer customers a full complement of electrical, air, water and fuel in-ground and above-ground airport supply systems.

Mr. Widegren added: “The acquisition of Dabico is a positive development. It is an integration dovetailed to the market needs. These synergies will significantly boost our combined presence in the worldwide market and provide new opportunities for all of our airports activities.”

Mr. Juergen Strommer, Managing Director, Cavotec Middle East, is confident that they will attract impressive clientele at the Airport Show. “Cavotec has a different approach to the science of cable management system makes us a favourite with our customers. The WIBE Academy, launched by us, plays an instrumental role in training the staff in the nuance and practice of the system so that the MEP contractor will have a correct and quality installation within the stipulated timeframe.”

WIBE is an all encompassing technology that provides ladders that are installed both vertically and horizontally to carry electrical cables over very long areas, which is ideal for high rise towers.

Besides a large range of ground support equipment which includes systems such as pop-up and hatch type pits, towbars, aircraft connectors and cable coils, a substantial amount of Cavotec’s focus is directed into finding new efficient and environmentally friendly ways to supply aircraft with essential services while parked at the gate.

Progress has also been made in the development of the PCA Caddy. This unit stands to revolutionize the manner in which pre-conditioned air (PCA) is supplied to the parked aircraft as it does not need any type of diesel generator. During extensive testing the PCA Caddy has proven itself to be the only unit capable of sufficiently cooling large aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A340/A330, in extremely hot climates.

Cavotec has reaffirmed its intent to serve the region better by opening an AED10 million Regional headquarters in Dubai, which includes an extensive warehouse and a total area of over 7,200 sqm, and launching a technical training academy for WIBE solutions, again, in Dubai.
