ALBAWABA - Casualties have been reported following a blast that shook a busy town market in the Syrian city of Azaz near the Syrian-Turkish borders.
Witnesses spoke to Reuters saying that the blast struck at a peak shopping hour after Muslims broke their fast on the 21st night of Ramadan. "Its timing comes with heavy congestion by shoppers," one told reporters.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that "a car bomb exploded in the middle of a popular market" in Azaz. The UK-based organization, which maintains a network of sources inside Syria, stated that Saturday's blast caused "significant damage" and started a fire.
According to the reports by the Observatory, at least 8 people have been killed, while 23 others were significantly injured, with the numbers expected to rise in the coming hours.
On March 20th, a man was killed and two other police officers were injured, they were later hospitalized following an explosive device blast which was carried out by masked gunmen near a military roadblock at the entrance to Al-Ra 'i town at the northern Syrian-Turkish borders.
