A car bomb targeting a military post in Turkey's conflict-hit southeastern city of Diyarbakir killed a soldier and wounded nearly 50 others late on Monday, a military source told AFP.

Turkish authorities have blamed the attack on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Militants from PKK offshoots have claimed responsibility for similar recent attacks targeting military vehicles in Ankara.

Security forces have launched a search operation after the bombing.

Turkey has been engaged in a military offensive against the PKK since a two-year ceasefire collapsed in July.

Turkish forces typically retaliate for the attacks by launching raids in Kurdish-majority cities and conducting airstrikes against PKK targets in northern Iraq.
