canadian university of dubai signs a memorandum of understanding with university of new brunswick
Canadian University of Dubai (CUD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of New Brunswick (UNB) -  the First English Speaking University in Canada. Canadian University of Dubai is a full subsidiary of Emirates Investment and Development Company PSC (Emivest).
The MOU was signed by Garth Jackson, Executive Vice President of CUD, and Kathryn Hamer, Vice President of Saint John Campus (UNB), and the signing was attended by several distinguished faculty and administrative staff of UNB, and CUD.

Addressing the august gathering, Garth Jackson said: “At CUD, quality programs selected for their suitability to the region are delivered by highly qualified faculty. CUD is a multicultural university which attracts students comprising many different nationalities, and who come from many different countries as well as from the UAE and Gulf region, to study here. With this agreement in place, our students will get a chance to transfer credits to UNB if they so desire. We will also develop joint programs at undergraduate and graduate levels, and promote collaborative research. We are also encouraged by the Canadian Senior Trade Commissioner and the Canadian Embassy to support associations with local institutions.”

Garth added CUD will benefit from exchange programs between students and faculty of UNB and benefit from actual delivery of UNB programs at all levels. CUD, with its provision of MOHE accredited programs, is the only Canadian institution in Dubai and is attracting students who are seeking a rounded education.

Garth explained: “CUD is guided by the highest educational and corporate ethics, and its mission is to provide students with an international educational experience encompassing Canadian perspectives in learning, research and application, whilst appreciating and respecting diverse cultures and UAE values.”

Kathryn Hamer added: “CUD is a portal to Canadian Education in Dubai, and as a Canadian institution, UNB is very happy to be associated with a local venture of this stature, which is being backed by investors who are fully committed to giving the Canadian education the right exposure and development. UNB will do everything possible to assist CUD in developing their institution as one of the very best in the region along with the British, American and Australian institutions which are here. With over 200 years of academic excellence, UNB has a reputation for being a leader in innovative teaching and research. It has campuses in Fredericton and Saint John and is ranked among the top 10 in Canada.”

She added that UNB’s entry in this market can be considered as a very valuable addition to the academic environment developing in Dubai, and with the kind of response  that Canadian education has been receiving in the region, she is sure that it is here to stay and that it will flourish.
Kathryn pointed out: “Students studying at CUD for one or two years will now have the option of transferring their credits to UNB due to this articulation agreement. Hence, CUD will act as a feeder for UNB campuses located in Saint John and Fredericton. Currently, the UNB Application Centre is based at the CUD campus. It is managed by Mariam Shaikh, who provides qualified counselling and assistance to students in processing admissions into any of the academic programs being offered in Canada.”
She said students are guided through the entire admission process and assisted up until their placement in the university, and that their accommodation on or off campus, visa, travel arrangements etc. are all facilitated.
