Days before the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, the governor of Cairo, Abdel Rahim Shehatah, has announced that the municipality is working on applying new techniques to avoid traffic jams during the bustling period.
Shehatah was quoted by the Cairo-based Al Ahram newspaper as saying that “special measures will be adopt to enhance the traffic flow, like traffic check posts fixed at the main and secondary junctions and roads, esspecially roads leading to religious sites and grand mosques.
This is in addition to increasing mobile patrols to guide motorists to the least busy roads and in order to apprehend those who park illegally.
The governor has also given instructions to withdraw licenses from public transportation drivers who change the routes defined for them or use the horns of their cars.
In addition, he has reiterated the need to ensure the safety of buses before they leave their garages and the intensification of the campaign on shuttle cars and taxi services, particularly in heavily populated areas.
