Agence France Presse reported Sunday that at least two policemen were killed by armed attackers on the road between Cairo and Suez Saturday shortly after a small jihadist group claimed attack for the Cairo bombs that struck Egypt's capital last week.
The attackers opened fire on the policemen's patrol car while they were on duty between the road on Cairo and Suez.
The attack comes a day after a little-known jihadist group Ajnad Misr claimed attacks on police authorities in Cairo last week.
Many militant attacks have targeted police and security forces since the oust of former president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013. Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Beit Al Maqdis usually claims responsibility for the attacks.
According to Amnesty International, more than 1,400 people have been killed in post-Morsi era violence between Egyptian Islamists and Egypt's security apparatus.
Most attacks have been reported in the Sinai Peninsula, where the jihadist militant groups are based.
