Computer Associates (CA), one of the world’s largest management software companies, today announced its acquisition of iLumin Software Services, Inc., a privately held provider of enterprise message management and archiving software.  The acquisition extends CA’s leadership in Intelligent Storage Management (ISM) by adding comprehensive, cross-platform email security, archiving, storage management and data protection to CA’s industry-leading BrightStor solutions.

iLumin's Assentor product line provides comprehensive, enterprise message management and archiving for email, instant messages, and other unstructured data across leading platforms including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise.   These solutions enable customers to cost-effectively address their message management objectives, including records management, discovery, litigation support, compliance, and supervision.

“Organizations are under intense pressure to improve management and protection of all their data – including the emails and unstructured data that comprise such a big part of the everyday business environment,” said Gilbert Lacroix, VP and general manager of CA in the Arab Countries and Pakistan.  “By enhancing our BrightStor enterprise portfolio with iLumin’s email management technology, CA can now offer customers an exceptionally complete and streamlined approach to managing and protecting the full spectrum of information assets across the enterprise.”

According to Gartner, the worldwide email archiving market for licensed product is expected to see a 58 percent compound annual growth rate over the next 5 years, growing from $89 million in 2004 to $883 in 2009. (1)

Gartner also states, “Companies must address their e-mail retention and management needs now.  Waiting until the company defines a plan for electronic records retention or for e-mail active-archiving technology to mature could place your business at risk, given the regulatory requirements and escalating demands for electronic discovery.” (2)

“Joining CA’s BrightStor family will strengthen the Assentor product line and take it further than previously possible,” added Lacroix.  “More importantly, by providing email management within the framework of CA’s Intelligent Storage Management strategy, we will enable organizations worldwide to gain the cost savings and risk mitigation that result when all enterprise information assets are managed in a common manner.”

CA will demonstrate its new email messaging solutions, along with BrightStor data availability and storage management suites, at CA World 2005, November 13-17, in Las Vegas.  For more information on iLumin products, please visit http://ca.com/ilumin.
