The Business Student Association at AUD Holds its Annual Awards Ceremony
Students honored for Outstanding Academic Performance, Project Innovation, and Maximum Contribution to the AUD Community
The Business Student Association (BSA) at The American University in Dubai (AUD) held its BSA Awards for the year 2008-2009 on the AUD campus. Student winners were awarded in accordance to three categories: Outstanding Academic Performance, Project Innovation, and Maximum Contribution to the AUD Community.
The first category sheds lights on students from the School of Business Administration (SBA) at AUD who showcase outstanding academic performance through their regular attendance in class and productive participation. Two students, Natasha Pardasani and Ghina Khalaji, bagged the respective awards that were presented by Dr. Hossein Gharavi, Chair of Management and E-Business and Associate Professor of Economics at AUD.
As to the second category, it is also designed for SBA students who are recognized for their innovation and creativity in work; be it in the form of a creative presentation, a creative model built by the student, or any innovative idea shared with the AUD community. Anuja Jaggi and Sanjay Keshup were bestowed the awards for this category by Dr. Tarek Mady, Chair of Marketing and Marketing Communications and Assistant Professor of Marketing at AUD.
Furthermore, Amin Al Hajj and Rani Metry, students of the SBA and the School of Engineering at AUD, respectively, earned the awards for the Maximum Contribution to the AUD Community
category, which highlights hardworking students who are actively involved in the University’s interdepartmental and extracurricular activities and offer their incessant assistance to the AUD Student Services Office. These awards were presented by Dr. Mohammed Abu Ali, Chair of Finance and Accounting and Assistant Professor of Economics, and faculty advisor to the BSA.
On the magnitude of such university-related activities, Dr. Abu Ali comments, “I am proud of the AUD Business Student Association (BSA) leadership. They showed dedication, initiative, and hard work in contributing to the quality of life on the AUD Campus. I have supported and advised BSA with four goals in mind: first, to help our business students become holistic, self-dependent, and highly motivated individuals who recognize the strive for excellence in the AUD community. Second, to improve our students’ ability to interact with the industry and the real business world in Dubai. Third, to encourage our students to build and improve excellent communication skills. Finally, to build the BSA officials’ (students) capacity to attract excellent speakers that would add value to the knowledge of the entire AUD community through the BSA speakers’ series. BSA students did well on all counts.”
Shilpa Asnani, an AUD student pursuing her degree in Business Administration and President of the SBA, reflects on the significance of this activity by acknowledging that, “The BSA works the entire year to make this, our main event, as grand as possible. This has served as a platform to reward all those students who have shown excellence in their respective areas. What makes it better is that the winners are chosen by the professors themselves, as they are the best judges for the students’ performance. The BSA team is very happy and proud to have conceptualized and started this annual ceremony as it gives us great pleasure to recognize our peers and professors for all their hard work and dedication.”
Furthermore, Dr. Karim Mimouni, AUD’s Assistant Professor of Finance was granted the Ideal Business Professor Award, presented by Dr. Dwayne Banks, Dean of the SBA and Associate Professor of Economics at AUD, as per student vote. Dr. Mimouni received his doctoral research grants from several prestigious granting agencies in Canada. His work has been presented at the European Finance Association (EFA), the Northern Finance Association (NFA) and the American Finance Association (AFA) meetings.
The evening also featured a standup comedy show, by the AUD student George Saad, Axis of Evil winner, as well as live dance and rock bands performances, and was concluded with dinner and delicacies served in the University’s Cafeteria.
