US President George W. Bush has invited Lebanese President Emile Lahoud to visit Washington, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The invitation was relayed to Lahoud via US Embassy press attaché David Hale.
A date has not yet been set for the visit, since Lahoud’s agenda is already full with trips scheduled to Romania, Tunisia, Morocco and France, said the paper.
Lahoud has previously stated his intention to head the country’s delegation to the United Nations’ headquarters in New York for the general assembly this September.
Lahoud may use that meeting to meet with Bush and other US officials, said the Daily Star.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri ended early this week a visit to the US where he held talks with Bush on bilateral and regional issues.
Bush has so far held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan’s King Abdullah.
Bahrain’s emir Sheikh Hamad al-Khalifa and Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh are due to hold similar talks with the US president in the near future – Albawaba.com
