The U.S. State Department has announced that assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs William Burns will visit several Gulf countries in mid-January.
According to the official Saudi News Agency (SPA), the US official will travel to the region from January 9th to the 18th. Top on his agenda are issues of mutual concern, like the US-led campaign against terrorism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and then bilateral and regional issues with countries involved, spokesman Richard Boucher was quoted as saying.
According to Boucher, Burns' tour will take him to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen “in approximately that order.” (Albawaba.com)
