The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the Middle East’s leading research-based postgraduate university, today appointed Professor Haitham Haloush as Senior Lecturer
of the newly-launched Masters (MSc) programme in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution (CLDR), to commence in February 2010.
Dr. Haloush previously worked for The Hashemite University in Jordan for approximately five years as Assistant Professor of Law, having completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from Leeds University in 2004.
Ahead of the February 2010 intake, Dr. Haloush will be responsible for overseeing the region’s first CLDR programme and developing the course at an international standard.
“BUiD is proud to launch yet another important MSc programme for the UAE. The CLDR course will offer the region’s law and construction professionals with the much-needed knowledge to further develop in their respective careers and contribute to the region’s fast-growing economy,” said Professor Abdulla Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, The British University in Dubai.
Dr. Haloush is a regular speaker at local and international conferences, and is also editor of two books titled: Online Alternative Dispute Resolution as a Solution to Cross-Border Electronic Commercial Disputes, and International Encyclopedia of Laws: Contract Law in Jordan.
“It is a great honour to be responsible for establishing the Middle East’s first Masters programme in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution. The launch comes at such a crucial time for the Middle East as it enters a new decade of development,” said Dr. Haitham Haloush, Senior Lecturer, Construction Law and Dispute Resolution, The British University in Dubai.
The CLDR programme is offered in association with the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King’s College London, one of the top 25 universities in the world according to The Times Higher Education 2007. The MSc is also accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The MSc programme will include foundation modules in law for non-lawyers and construction for lawyers, and supports career development within both private and public sector organisations and firms engaged with infrastructure and building projects. It ensures that students are familiar with construction technology as well as the legal knowledge and techniques necessary to understand current theory and practice in construction law and dispute resolution. BUiD associates with leading UK Universities such as Kings College London enables students to be at the leading edge of academic and professional expertise.
