BUDDING HOTELIERS AWARDED AT EMIRATES ACADEMY OF HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

Hoteliers of the future were recognised for their outstanding academic performance last week by The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, part of Dubai-based luxury hospitality group Jumeirah.

The Academy held its Dean’s List ceremony at Mina A’ Salam, where top students are acknowledged for their outstanding academic performance. Students selected for the Dean’s List have shown achievement across courses and attained an exceptional Grade Point Average (GPA); with a threshold of 3.33. The Dean’s List ceremony was introduced last year and has now become a bi-annual event for students and faculty at The Emirates Academy.

The Emirates Academy also took the opportunity to welcome the ‘Class of 2005’ at the ceremony, which saw 76 new students join the various academic programmes at the Academy coming from 26 different nationalities. The total student body now exceeds 200 with students coming from over 40 different nationalities.

Gerald Lawless, CEO of Jumeirah, was joined by the entire Jumeirah Executive Team to award the certificates to the students. He said: “I am very proud to be recognising such outstanding performance in these students, who are bound for great success in their careers. The students with us here today are the future of the hospitality industry and I am sure will go on to excel as hoteliers, either here in Dubai or overseas. I congratulate them all and on behalf of Jumeirah commend their achievements.”

The top students on this year’s Dean’s List were Torunn Tronsvang and Flavia Forster from Norway and Omar Abu Omar, who is Jordanian. Altogether, 17 students from across the various academic programmes were recognised at this year’s Dean’s List ceremony for their exceptional academic achievements.

Current degree programmes on offer at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management are a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Hons Degree in International Hospitality Management, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Hons Degree in International Tourism Management, an Associate Degree in International Hospitality Operations and an Associate Degree in Business & Tourism.
