Brown: U.K. forces end combat operations in Iraq

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said U.K. forces have ended their combat operations in Iraq. According to him, British combat patrols in Basra will end as the soldiers prepare to leave the country.

 

According to the AP, the British leader made the announcement Thursday after meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in London.

 

Meanwhile, Turkey's military stated it had launched air strikes against suspected Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) bases in northern Iraq overnight and on Thursday. According to Reuters, the RAID came after nine Turkish troops died by an explosion in Turkey's southeast on Wednesday.
