Brother Gulf, a global leader in the development and manufacturing of printing, communication and digital imaging products for homes, SOHOs and enterprises, announced that it has delivered 1400 printer units over the last two years to the Public Security Directorate (PSD), a part of the Jordan Ministry of Interior. The deal is part of a contract awarded to General Computers & Electronics (GCE), the manufacturer’s distributor in Jordan, to supply high performance laser printers, which will aid in maximising the organisation’s operational speed while cutting back on running costs. In addition to PSD, Brother has also delivered its printers to other Jordanian government departments, including the Ministry of Justice, the Jordan University of Science and Technology and the Income and Sales Tax Department.

The manufacturer has provided its laser printer model - the HL-5250DN, which is capable of printing as fast as 28 pages per minute and comes with a built-in Auto Duplex Unit and a Network Ready feature. This particular model has been chosen for the project due to its superior running cost, wide availability of original consumables, and flexible features that can address the agency’s various printing volume and speed requirements. Brother and GCE have also ensured 24 hour x 7 days technical support through the deployment of two engineers who will attend to the agency’s printing concerns. The printers, which have been designed to reduce total cost of ownership and reduce frequency of cartridge replacement, are entitled to a three-year warranty.

“By delivering sharper and more striking printouts at high resolutions and at faster print speeds, our laser printer has successfully brought robust printing performance to the Public Security Directorate,” said Shinji Tada, Managing Director, Brother Gulf. “This project is a testament to the strong repute we are building among government departments, who are continuously choosing Brother printers over other printers in the market. This outstanding success has been driven by our Jordan distributor, General Computers & Electronics whose expertise and deep knowledge has given us significant business advantages.”

Facilitating the agency’s aims to cut back on its paper consumption, the printers come with a built-in duplex for double-sided printing, in addition to a standard 250-sheet paper tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray that is expandable up to 800 sheets for more paper handling and volume printing. Boasting of flexible memory capacity that is upgradeable from its standard 32MB up to 544MB, the printers can be configured to accommodate an increase in the number of users. The printers also have an Ethernet port, an integrated 10/100Base-TX network card to connect to the LAN, and the support of advanced network protocols such as Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

“GCE’s focus is to supply the local market with diverse in-demand products and services. Our understanding of the Public Security Directorate’s requirements was complemented by Brother's expertise in helping customers enhance their print speed and drive down costs, leading to the success of this project, which is part of our commitment to fulfil the needs of both public and private sectors in Jordan,” concluded Eng. Abdelrahim Milbes, General Manager, General Computers & Electronics.

Founded in 1985, GCE is a leading IT company in Jordan that carries over 23 high-technology global brands that provide cutting-edge IT hardware, software, network and geographic information systems (GIS) solutions. Brother and GCE started their relationship in 1998, with a focus on capturing clients within the government and other important markets, including banking and industrial sectors, universities and educational institutions, health and corporate services.
