A British frigate made a friendly call at the port of Aden on Sunday, the first foreign ship to stop at the Red Sea port.
The HMS Campbeltown arrived at the port at 8:30 am (local time) amidst heavy security. The 6,000-ton frigate's arrival was attended by Britain's ambassador to Yemen, Francis Jay, other British diplomats and high-ranking Yemeni military officials.
"We are very happy to have a Royal Navy ship back in Aden for the first time for more than four years. We'd like to say a big thank you to the governor and the people in Aden for making sure that everything is safe and secure and it's nice to be here," Ambassador Jay told AP.
The frigate has 250 crewmembers and is to leave on Monday to carry out patrolling duties in the Gulf, said embassy spokesman Charles Heatly. "This is a friendship call and things are going smoothly. We are very happy with everything the Yemenis have provided," Heatly said. (Albawaba.com)
