A Briton disc jockey for a Dubai radio station has been sentenced to life imprisonment after selling cocaine to an undercover policeman, reported the Gulf News on Tuesday.
Anthony Okwesia, 34, is the second Briton to receive a life sentence for drugs offences in the UAE in three weeks, said the paper.
Okwesia is married with a young son, worked full-time as a media manager for Out and About magazine, and hosted a soul music show on Dubai FM on Wednesday nights.
Another Briton, 22-year-old Anna Bartlett, was jailed for life in Ras Al Khaimah on May 20 after admitting to smuggling cocaine and hashish.
Anna Kidd, a 32-year-old Eastern European woman travelling on a false British passport, also received a similar sentence after being convicted of "using and distributing drugs" as part of the same case, and Daniel Maalouf, a 28-year-old Londoner working for an investment company in Abu Dhabi, was jailed for 10 years for "intent to traffic in drugs."
They also face charges in Dubai along with 30-year-old Emirates air hostess Kathryn Jenkins from Wales, 24-year-old Heidi Deboer from Australia and a British man travelling on a false passport in the name of Stacy Simpson whom the Sharia court did not convict – Albawaba.com
