British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is expected to fly Tuesday to Turkey to discuss the Iraqi crisis as well as means to resolve the dispute in Cyprus, British officials said on Monday.
Ankara is viewed as an important ally of the West in the fight against international terrorism, and its role in the event of a possible war with Iraq is vital, it was pointed out, according to Kuwait News Agency.
Regarding Cyprus, Straw wants the new Turkish Government to support the United Nations (UN) plan, aimed at reuniting the island, an issue, which would pave the way for Turkish membership in the European Union (EU), the news agency added. (Albawaba.com)
