Paul Bremer, the US administrator for Iraq, on Wednesday blamed members of the banned Baath Party for acts of sabotage and a power cut in Baghdad.
"The problem is due to sabotage of the power lines between Beiji and Baghdad. We are doing everything we can to fix this as quickly as possible. Almost certainly the saboteurs are rogue Baathist elements," Bremer said.
The Iraqi capital has been without power since early Monday after a breakdown and suspected sabotage of fuel pipelines.
The latest attack damaged an oil pipline at Barwanah, 250 kilometres northwest of Baghdad, which supplied a refinery and a power plant in the capital, an official from Iraq's Northern Oil Co. said Wednesday.
