In its ongoing fight against breast cancer and as part of the global awareness campaign “Making it Our Business”, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry hosted its second breast cancer prevention event, a lecture on early detection of the dreaded disease that afflicts a large number of women populace worldwide, for its staff members recently.
The event that was facilitated by Dr. Jaimala Shukla, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist from Emirates Diagnostic Clinic, a division of Welcare World, was attended by over 18 staff members who got a fair idea about self exam which is considered the first step in the prevention of the threatening disease. The hands-on presentation provided participants with an overview of breast cancer, its diagnosis and the methods of reducing the risk, demonstration on how to do a self breast exam and their queries on the subject were answered by the visiting doctor. Educational materials including the brochure ‘Breast Cancer What You Need to Know’ were also distributed at the event.
Throughout the year, Dubai Chamber will be holding similar events for both its staff as well as the general public. On August 18 at Dubai Healthcare City, the 3rd Train-the-Trainer (T0T) will be held where additional employees of the 12 Charter Companies will be trained on breast cancer prevention and education. In addition, Dubai Chamber will be hosting a Cause Marketing Workshop facilitated by Susan G. Komen® on August 20. Finally, all Charter Companies will be able to showcase their successes as part of the "Making It Our Business" campaign at an event on October 14 where Dr. Houriya Kazim, a Dubai-based breast surgeon, will also be giving an awareness presentation at this event.
