Pakistan’s president Arif Alvi prayed “for eternal rest of the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss,” his office said in a statement.
Musharraf was suffering from amyloidosis, which happens when an abnormal protein builds up in organs, interfering with normal functions. He was admitted to hospital in the UAE last year.
Dawn quoted Geo TV as saying that funeral arrangements were underway back home. It said a special flight will fly to Dubai on Monday to retrieve Musharraf’s body back to his native Pakistan, where it will be laid to rest.
