Reuters reports that Daesh militants have taken control of Maheen, a Syrian city in the Homs province, after an attack on Sunday morning.
Syrian monitoring groups as well as Daesh confirm that the city is now under Daesh control.
Maheen is located strategically near a main highway in Syria, connecting Homs and Damascus to cities in northern Syria. This move allows Daesh greater mobility throughout Syria.
Reuters also reports that Daesh is continuing to push northwest toward Sadad, a mostly Christian town close to Maheen. Sadad contains multiple churches and Christian artifacts. Fighting has reached the outskirts of the town.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is continuing to monitor the situation.
