Suspected PKK militants detonated a bomb-laden car at a police checkpoint in the southeastern Turkish province of Sirnak Friday morning, security sources said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources said the attack targeted the checkpoint some 50 meters away from a riot police unit headquarters in Sirnak's town of Cizre.

Ambulances were sent to the scene and several wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The blast caused extensive damage to the police HQ building.
