Extremist militant group Daesh claimed a car bomb attack in the Old City area of the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Saturday. The vehicle exploded outside the Kobbat al-Mehdi mosque used by the Houthi militia, AFP reported.
Amidst varying accounts, Reuters reported two people were killed and six wounded in the attack.
On Wednesday, Daesh claimed responsibility for a series of car bomb attacks that killed or injured at least 50 people across Sanaa, AFP reported.
The Houthis, who mainly belong to the Shiite Zaydi sect and are considered heretics by Sunni extremist Daesh militants, took over Sanaa in September, sparking civil conflict and ongoing airstrikes by a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states in the poverty-stricken country. Amongst other warring parties, Houthi fighters allied with former President Ali Abdullah Saleh are in conflict with forces loyal to President Abed Rabbou Mansour Hadi, who currently lives in exile in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
UN-brokered peace talks in Geneva between Yemen's warring factions failed Friday to reach an agreement.
