BP, the oil and gas multinational held a regional crisis management training event in Dubai designed to raise the capability and competence of BP’s front line staff in line with the company’s response system for incidents and crises.
Guest speakers for the training included a delegate from Dubai World, and Mr. Rob Self, Regional Manager, Middle East based in Bahrain from OSRL/EARL (Oil Spill Response and East Asia Response Limited). They shared their companies’ own experiences and practices providing attendees with a wider industry perspective.
Based on a campus-style training format, the three-day event included a special emphasis on Incident Management, Oil Spills, and Country/ Regional Crisis Networks, themes that were also reflected in the four exhibition stands at the venue. These related to Fire Protection & Prevention; Group Crisis Centre, in Dubai and the UAE; and the Africa,Middle East, Russia and Caspian (AMRC) regional Crisis Centre.
The initiative was part of BP’s ongoing commitment to strengthen processes and maintain best practices that ensure safety for people and environmental preservation.
The training event was followed by a Regional Response Team (RRT) exercise where members of the RRT flew in to Dubai and teamed up with the Sharjah Incident Management Team (IMT). The aim of this exercise was to provide a learning opportunity for the IMT to effectively draw expertise from the rest of the BP world and efficiently respond to an incident while maintaining our core values and priorities of People, Environment, Business and Reputation.
