The Kommersant daily published a report Wednesday stating that the bomb which downed a Metrojet passenger plane over Egypt's Sinai desert was placed in the main cabin, Reuters reports.
"According to a preliminary version, the bomb could have been laid under the passenger seat by the window. Its operation has led to the destruction of the frame and depressurization of the cabin, which had an explosive character," the newspaper said, citing an unnamed security source.
Previous reports suggested the bomb was placed in the cargo hold.
Russian authorities released an official statement on Tuesday confirming that the jet was downed by a bomb planted aboard the aircraft.
Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities continue to strongly deny any reports suggesting the tragedy was a result of a "criminal act".
