Israeli police investigators at the scene of the explosion that hit Thursday morning Israel’s biggest petroleum and gas storage facility - dubbed Pi Glilot – just north of Tel Aviv concluded the blast was a well-planned bombing attack.
Pi Glilot is considered one of the most secured sites in Israel.
The explosion was caused by a bomb attached to the chassis of a tanker which arrived at the facility to fillup. The driver was not sitting in the tanker when the blast took place.
Workers doused the flames of a small fire caused by the explosion.
There were no injuries in the explosion, which happened within the depot. The vehicle sustained minor damage in the blast.
Initially, police and Pi Glilot officials believed the explosion was the result of a malfunction during the transfer of fuel to the tanker, but later police said remains of a bomb activated by a cellular telephone were found at the scene, Army Radio reported.
Pi Glilot supplies 70 percent of gasoline and diesel fuel to Israel’s gasoline stations. (Albawaba.com)
