A series of bomb attacks has killed 12 people in the predominately Shiite town of Judaida al-Shat, north of Baghdad.

Two car bombs and a suicide bomber attacked a fruit and vegetable market on Monday morning, AFP reported.

48 people were wounded in the bombing, police and medical sources told AFP.

May was the deadliest month in Iraq since June 2008 as more than 1000 people were killed in violence there, according to UN figures.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki recently held an emergency meeting with leading security figures in a bid to restructure Iraq's national security strategy.
