BNP Paribas, a European leader in banking and financial services, is co-sponsoring the “Magic of Cinema,” photo exhibition by the world renowned Magnum Photo Agency.  The exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the Fourth Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) from December 11 to 16 at the Dubai Media City.

“BNP Paribas has consistently sponsored important events in the UAE. We are present in this market for 35 years and have always supported community events such as tennis, art, scientific research etc,” said Mr. Michael Pereira, Country Head for BNP Paribas in the UAE. We are boosting our resources in the GCC which has become an increasingly important region for our operation. From 480 employees our staff strength will go up to 600 by the end of the year.”

At the venue opposite the CNN building in the Dubai Media City, BNP Paribas will be represented by a permanent stand where a specialized team will present different know-how of the bank along with technical demonstration on a plasma screen.

Magnum photographers have been involved in the documenting of world of cinema, working on film sets, photographing film directors, actors and actresses on and off the camera and documenting their lives. Magnum photographers have collectively covered the modern history of cinema. “Magic of Cinema,” is being held under the patronage of the French Embassy in the UAE.

From these archives, the exhibition, The Magic of Cinema, was created to celebrate cinema in all its forms. It is an  exhibition of 82 photographic works in colour and black and white by over 40 of the world’s most famous photographers such as Robert Capa, René Burri, Philippe Halsman, Eve Arnold, Elliott Erwitt, Bruno Barbey, Martine Franck, Patrick Zachman, Abbas, Dennis Stock and Guy Le Querrec to name a few.

Photographs in the exhibition include legendary names such as directors from America, France, Great Britain, Italy, India, and Egypt including Orson Welles, Jean Renoir, Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Alain Resnais, Alfred Hitchcock, Roberto Rossellini, Satyajit Ray and Youssef Chahine.

A large part of the glamour and charisma of cinema is owed to the actors and actresses who appear in the films. A handful of them from the 1950s and 1960s, have captured our hearts and minds and live on to become more than stars of the silver screen such as James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor among others will be featured in the “Magic Of Cinema.”.

BNP Paribas has been operating in the Gulf for over 35 years with a presence in five Gulf countries (Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia). The teams also cover Oman and Yemen. BNP Paribas in the region accounts for approximately 550 employees. The Regional Management is based in Bahrain which is the regional hub for BNP Paribas in the Gulf.
