At least seven blasts heard Tuesday in central Baghdad, and smoke was seen rising from the green zone headquarters of the U.S.-led occupation.
Reuters said one of the blasts hit the headquarters of a Kurdish party - the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which is located close to Iraq's Foreign Ministry and the entrance to the Green Zone compound. At least 25 people were reported dead and some 20 wounded.
According to AFP, the blasts were followed by gunshots outside the occupation headquarters. An Iraqi policeman said that at least three mortars had landed inside the Green Zone.
In a separate incident, 11 Iraqi civilians were reported killed and 26 others wounded by a car bomb near a US military base in the northern town of Bayji.
The blast took place Tuesday outside the gates of the 1st Infantry Division's forward operating base, Summerall, in Beiji, located some 155 miles north of Baghdad, press spokesman Capt. Bill Coppernoll said. He could not, however, confirm the number of casualties. (Albawaba.com)
