ALBAWABA - According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, six people were reportedly killed and several others were injured in strikes near the Sayyeda Zeinab shrine in Damascus, Syria.

A source in Iran's regional alliance spoke to Reuters that the strike hit a location used by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The Syrian Observatory also reported that among the six people killed was a "pro-Iran fighter".

"Israeli strikes targeted a base belonging to Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guards, killing six people including pro-Iran fighters," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Abdel Rahman added that it was unclear whether civilians were among the dead

Despite the lack of confirmation from Syrian authorities, an opposition-backed website said that the strikes were likely carried out by the Israeli forces, where the targeted area happens to be near the location where IRGC commander Razi Mousavi was killed in December 2023.

In a post on X, the semi-official news agency TASNIM claimed that the attack which "claimed the lives of 2 civilians and the destruction of property of some Syrian citizens" was caused by an Israeli airstrike.
