The Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has confirmed the importance of his meeting with the Libyan leader, Moammar Kadhafi. According to JANA, he said this was an "amicable meeting dominated by the spirit of friendship which governs relations between the two friendly countries." He also praised the steps taken by Tripoli in international affairs and confirmed that this would consolidate Libya's role, regionally and internationally.
In a statement before leaving Libya, he said "we could rely on Libya in what concerns the achievement of stability in the Mediterranean and in fighting illegal immigration."
