ALBAWABA - Belgium announced joining Jordan's plan and will be part of the operation of air drop aid to Gaza, the government confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
This comes as UN agencies warned that the Gaza Strip is facing acute hunger and is heading towards famine amid continued Israeli blockade of the entry of humanitarian assistance into the war-zone area.
A Belgian plane carrying medical supplies and food worth about $690,000 will be heading "soon" to Amman, and will remain on stand-by to conduct air drops in Gaza, the defence and foreign ministries revealed.
Yesterday, France announced it will carry out an air drop of aid to Gaza amid UN agencies' warnings of famine.
"France will carry out air drops in the coming days to meet the most essential and urgent needs of the civilian population in Gaza," AFP reported, citing the source.
