Saudi Arabia on Monday beheaded one of its citizens convicted of murder, bringing the execution total to 57 in 2013.
Saleh bin Ali al-Shemmarani was executed after he was convicted of stabbing to death a fellow Saudi citizen, following a dispute between the two, according to an interior ministry statement.
A total of 57 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia since the start of the year, according to an AFP count.
76 people were put to death in the US-backed Saudi kingdom in 2012, according to an AFP tally.
“Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery, drug trafficking, sorcery and witchcraft are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's strict version of sharia, or Islamic law”, AFP reported.
