Batelco, the Kingdom’s leading telecommunications company is delighted to announce its participation in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) celebrations to mark World Environment Day on June 5th.
Batelco, in cooperation with UNEP Regional Office for West Asia, will host a gathering of key influential figures from the Middle East region, to raise awareness of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
The regional celebration will take place under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate and Head of The Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment & Wildlife.
The event, for invited guests only, will take place on June 5th at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa. The list of invitees includes ambassadors, Ministry representatives, representatives from NGO’s and representatives from the United Nations.
Representative from Batelco, UNEP and the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment & Wildlife will give speeches to mark the occasion.
Additionally, a display of photographs highlighting Bahrain’s environment will be exhibited at the event. The photographs have been taken by students from Reem Al Khalifa’s photography class, which is offered by the University College of Bahrain.
UNEP’s world-wide celebration will be held in New Zealand this year. World Environment Day is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates world-wide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.
