Batelco announced Wednesday that it has signed a BD9,783,000 contract with Ericsson Radio Systems of Sweden to undertake the further expansion of the GSM network capacity.
The mobile telephone market in Bahrain, in line with trends world-wide, is growing ten times faster than fixed line telephony, said a press release.
Last year, the growth in this market sector amounted to 54 percent. At present there are 283,000 mobile customers in Bahrain. This represents a market penetration of 41 percent. This figure represents the second highest mobile penetration in the Middle East, said the statement.
