Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank Plc, yesterday (04 November) announced its intention to have a permanent capability in Qatar and at the Qatar Financial Centre. At the World Islamic Infrastructure Finance Conference His Excellency the Minister of Finance of the State of Qatar, Yousef Hussain Kamal unveiled a Barclays Capital logo, which symbolises the firm’s new commitment to the area.
Barclays Capital provides risk management and financing solutions to a number of clients in Qatar and the GCC.  The firm has a leading position in this area of investment banking in Qatar where it has led a number of landmark transactions for Qatari clients.  Barclays Capital is ranked by Bloomberg as the top bookrunner of Qatari syndicated loans executed since January 2006.  In 2007 Barclays Capital has been involved in a number of benchmark transactions including:
• US$ 2.5 billion syndicated term loan for QTEL
• US$ 1.85 billion syndicated loan for Qatar National Bank
• US$ 2.25 billion syndicated project financing for Qatar Aluminium
• US$ 2.39 billion syndicated project financing for Qatar Gas Transportation Company (Nakilat)
