ALBAWABA - Following news that the Bangladeshi Prime Minister was moved to a safe location, news has emerged that Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country to India, amid raging protests.

According to a BBC report, a helicopter carried the resigned PM to the city of Agartala in India, accompanied by her sister. Waker-Uz-Zaman, the head of Bangladesh's army, said on national television on Monday that Hasina had resigned and that the armed forces would establish a transitional administration.

"The country has suffered a lot, the economy has been hit, many people have been killed -- it is time to stop the violence. I hope after my speech, the situation will improve," Waker said.

Footage circulated online claiming to capture the moments when Hasina was fleeing the country via a helicopter.
