Bahrain's total exports surpassed five billion dollars in 2000 as oil exports amounted to 4 billion, reported the Gulf Daily Wednesday adding that the figures were the highest in 10 years. (1USD = BD0.36 )
The Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA) said that the country's total exports amounted to BD2.15bn in 2000, an increase of 38 percent over the previous year's total exports of BD1.57bn.
Oil exports comprised 70 percent of total exports, and increased 56 percent over the 1999 exports of BD960 million, said BMA.
Non-oil exports also rose to BD623m last year, an increase of 8.7 percent over the 1999 figure of BD573m, said the agency.
Bahrain's exports are principally petroleum and natural gas products (three-fourths of the total) and aluminum products.
Major importers of Bahrain's exports are the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, India, Canada, and Singapore, according to Bahrain’s industry ministry – Albawaba.com
