Two Bahraini committees on Wednesday called on the international community to stand up for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The call was made by the Bahraini Society against Normalization with the Zionist Enemy and the Popular Support Committee for Palestinian Intifada, in cables sent to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and US Secretary of State Colin Powell, reported the Gulf Daily News.

The head of the latter committee, Raef Al Hammad, said the move was part of an Arab national movement to pressure the international community.

“It aims to show them that Arabs are enraged by the lack of support for the Palestinian cause in the international arena,” he said.

The two groups have join forces to stage a major rally in front of Al Fateh Grand Mosque in Juffair in Manama on Thursday.

"The rally will be a statement in which people from all walks of life in Bahrain will share their sentiments and express their solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle against the Zionist regime," Hammad told the paper.

"These cables are part of this national movement to show that we Arabs are not happy with what is happening to our brothers and children in Palestine - that it is unacceptable and that the Palestinians are not alone in this struggle." – Albawaba.com
